More Wine Nights announced with George Bergier at the Fat Loaf
George Bergier has been in wines all of his working life. He has opened over a ¼ million bottles in service time. He started as a waiter in Warsaw in 1962, then first came to Britain in 1968 to join the team at the renound midland hotel Manchester where over a number of years he developed their cellars and managed all of the wine purchasing. George is a three time semi finalist in the UK sommelier of the year competition and is the chairman of the Manchester Guild of Sommeliers. He has won numerous awards including an award for excellence in 1999 from the academy of food and service. George moved away from the Midland and ran the prestigious St James’s club in Manchester from 1984 – 1996, from there he was restaurant manager at the four seasons, then Food and beverage manager at the Boutique Great John street hotel. 2006 saw George head hunted to be the general manager at Le Mont inside the urbis in Manchester centre. George now is the wine buyer for a major group of chop house restaurants in Manchester and also helps The Fat Loaf raise awareness of wines with advice, service & of course themed wine tasting evenings at both their Sale & Altrincham Restaurants.
