The Cottage Restaurant puts children in the shade

Callands County primary school pupils are to benefit from a safer outside playing environment thanks to the efforts of school staff, friends and the team at The Cottage Restaurant after they raised an amazing £1000 for out door equipment.

Head teacher Kate Hamilton was keen for the pupils of the school to enjoy outside activities but was concerned as to the adverse effects of overexposure to the sun. Sunshades were the obvious answer but funds were restricted so a fundraising event was desperately needed.

“The Cottage had always been keen to help us before with fundraising, and staff always certainly enjoyed a visit”. – Kate Hamilton said.

So the school along with the staff at The Cottage Restaurant organized a special fundraising evening. Tickets were sold at the school to staff, friends of the school and parents.

The evening included a fantastic selection of Indian and Mediterranean dishes for all to try, but not only that, all The Cottage staff dressed in traditional costume – and diners were treated to traditional Bangra dancing, a belly dancer and a street dance performance.

“Everyone enjoyed the evening immensely” said Kate Hamilton “and a fantastic amount was raised which will be a great help to the school, our heartfelt thanks goes out to the team at The Cottage” she added.

Chef at The Cottage Restaurant and Event organiser Linda Weaver added “The Cottage in all it’s guise’s since the 14th Century has always been a key part of the local community, so when we have an opportunity to help we will always do what we can. It’s so wonderful to give something back to the community and show our appreciation to customers for there support over the years.”

The Cottage has recently supported local fetes – providing traditional dishes and donating proceeds and donating gift vouchers for other good causes to be used as raffle prizes etc. Sister restaurant to The Cottage, The Antelope Restaurant in Walkden, Manchester recently raised over £400.00 for Wharton primary School with a similar event.
