The Poachers Inn
Traditional, British[show 17 more photos]
The Poachers Inn is a pleasant and very friendly pub with rapidly growing reputation for good quality, fresh homemade food. One of the few true free houses in the local area, it has been created by merging half a dozen terraced cottages. Occupying a corner site, it is solidly built from local stone and blends well with its surroundings.
Well known for its window boxes and hanging baskets, the Poachers has won the "Bollington in Bloom" awards three times. It is situated at the very edge of the village, at the foot of Blaze Hill, a hundred yards from the Peak District National Park with both the Gritstone Trail and the Middlewood Way nearby.
The pub manages to combine the interests of diverse groups in a way which defeats modern designers. In the centre, diner and drinkers mix affably around the bar. By the door, the comfortable lounge chairs and open fire provide a warm, relaxing and surprisingly quiet niche where you can stare into the fire while enjoying a pint of real ale. To the rear, a large secluded beer garden for those rare summer days and evenings.
Advance bookings are advised due to the popularity of our homemade food, from weekly pie evenings to our famous Sunday roasts.
We endeavour to provide our customers with a varied and comprehensive choice of real ales, over 30 Belgium beers, single malt whiskies and a selection of guest brews from all over the country including Jennings of Cockermouth, Daleside of Harrogate and Shepherd Neame of Kent.
This has now been recognised and rewarded by our addition to the Good Beer Guide for the last 8 years.

Top Pub Atmosphere and great place for a pint
Love The Poachers Inn, the food is lovely and staff are very friendly :) Good choice of beers wine and ciders!! great pub....
I love visiting The Poachers Inn, the food is lovely and can be adapted to your preferences. The staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome
I have spent many happy evenings in The Poachers over the years and can't understand why there are not more recommedations for the pub. Landlords Rob and Helen are fantastic ambassadors for the pub trade, their staff are knowledgable and very friendly and even the locals add to the whole experience. you can go in and feel comfortable on your own or with pals. The range of drinks are fab - Rob's real ales are always excellently kept and the range is mindblowing - the new beer from the local brewery Happy Valley is mouthwatering - its a 'Sworn secret'!!! make an effort and book for pie night on Wednesday eve - you'll be lucky to get a piece of stunning pie unless you book - Ive made that mistake before - pork, blackpudding and cranberry is the one for me.
All in all the package from the Poachers is the best Ive come across and believe me Ive studied many establishments but I think Ive found the best....try it
Went for a meal on Saturday night on a friends recommendation. The first thing the struck was the great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was superb. Went back on Wednesday for the advertised pie and a pint night and again a great night and meal was had. Will be going back soon
The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the food is excellent and the value is incredible. We are there more than we are at home at the moment! I would certainly recommend the Poacher's for anyone wanting good ale, good food and good company.
I visit here as often as i can as the food is superb and me and my family can afford it, as it is great value. The soup that comes with the lunch is delicious, especially the mushroom. Not only great food but a great atmosphere with friendly staff and a lovely fire for the cold and damp days. Highly recommend this great place for anyone who likes great food and real ale.
Took my wife and sister for the 2 course meal at lunchtime. Really enjoyed the main meal, especially the sausage. However, the soup was pure water. All three of us left it. We told the waiter and he said Oh! and walked away. We were confronted by the manager/chef. He said he couldn't offer any alternative because it comes free. We were not looking for anything but were disappointed with his attitude.
Popoular freehouse that serves really good homemade pub food and has a selection of very well kept beers. Taylors Landlord and Black Sheep is always available along with 3 guests Excellent staff and friendly banter, a proper village pub and the best in Bollington
brilliant bar....Belgium beers and good whiskeys...still recovering 2 days later....best pub in Bollington by far
Why Oh why do more people not use this pub - it is by far the best in the area - Bollington, Rainow and Macc. The food is top notch, the beer excellent and the staff can not do enough for you from great service to the friendly banter. The only problem I can forsee is that not enough people know about it .....a great place that requires a long visit !!!!!
Saw that The Poachers had gone no smoking - well done for have the nerve to do so! Went on Friday and had an excellent night - food was really lovely - chicken stuffed with black Pud off the special board was to die for. Pub was busy but staff were really attentive and professional. We have been before but will go more often as it is so goof to sit in a non smoking pub especially one with such great food and beer on offer
Went for a meal after being recomended by a friend and was more than happy. The pub (now no smoking) had a great atmosphere and the staff added to a great night with great food ,and oh yes a choice of 5 real ales kept us going on the drinks front
