The Metropolitan
British, International, Light Bites, Breakfast/Bru
[show 24 more photos]The Metropolitan could be described as a classy joint with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The pub-restaurant, housed in a former Victorian railway hotel, is large and airy with tasteful furnishings. It gets very busy with a young affluent crowd who can enjoy the cosy real fire atmosphere in winter, while in summer benefiting from the large patios and outside bar, complete with heaters for the cooler evenings.
The restaurant has a menu to suit all tastes. The food is freshly prepared and locally sourced where possible. The bar is one of the largest and best-stocked bars in the area with a good range of cask ales and continental beers. Wines are individually selected with a large range by the glass, plus a huge choice of malt and blended whiskies.
A full range of coffees and teas are available at both inside and outside bars.
There is seperate outside Bar and lots of tables and space to sit and enjoy your drinks on.
Restaurant times are shown below, the Bar is open longer... and breakfast is now being served all week!

I've been to The Metropolitan a few times but on my last couple of trips I've noticed a real improvement in the food. Had the most beautiful butternut squash lasagne that I could happily eat again and again. They've also started doing afternoon teas too so have booked in for one of those! Staff are great too, really attentive and know their stuff about the menu which helps for recommendations. Definitely worth a visit especially if you haven't been for a while.

I came here to eat on Saturday night with my friends and family. The food was surprisingly good (I always thought it was standard pub grub but couldn't be more wrong) The new conservatory area has a great atmosphere. We'll definitly be booking our Christmas get together here this year and dancing in their party marquee. We had a ball in there last year!!

Picture doesn't do it justice; its far nicer. Good mix of food and good service. I have been numerous times and had excellent/ satisfactory meals. Customer service is good and they always sort out any problems (including the time I got chewing gum on my trousers from a seat).
Would recommend.

Always thought this was a great place for a sociable pint but finally decided to try the food the other day and it was fantastic - as the other person put it, the pies are great!
