I dined here last night as I was in search of a curry with a twist and boy, did I get that! The Great Kathmandu is clearly a popular, atmospheric and clean (saw they had 5 stars on recent inspection) restaurant which I have wanted to visit for a long time.

I had a Chicken Khorsani dish which was laced with fresh green chillies, ginger and spices along with pilau rice and an Onion Kulcha which was a type of naan bread with a marinated onion filling.

The service was first class even though we had maybe 2-3 different waiters and the Kingfisher beer was a nice drink to have as it was not too gassy.

If you haven’t been here yet, add it to your list – I can’t wait to return.

The food is great - one of the nicest Indian restaurants we have tried and the portions are really generous. But if your eating in - the tables are very cramped - you don't have alot of room in your seats. But the food is definitely worth it.

Eight members of Trafford Curry Club visited this Restaurant on Wednesday 27th January 2009. We booked a table for 8pm and on arrival the place was very busy so we were pleased we booked. The decor is rather dated and the restaurant itself is quite small with not a lot of covers but don't let that put you off. It has a very friendly cosy feel and that is all part of the experience. We started with poppadums followed by mixed starters which included Lamb Chops, Seeekh Kebab and Fish Tikka which were delicious. We would strongly recommend the Fish Tikka to fish lovers. For main courses we ordered the Chandane Chicken dry fry, Chilli Chicken, Bhotowan Chicken, and Chicken Khorsani. The Khorsani and Chilli Chicken were very hot but absolutely delicious. We also tried the Tikka Masaala and Lamb Kharai and we all agreed the food was excellent. With ample pints of draught Kingfisher and Cobra plus a delicious jug of Mango Lassi and coffees to round off the evening the total bill for the eight of us was £170. The waiter service was excellent and all meals ordered came on time and were all correct. As we were leaving at 11.30pm people were still coming in, which is always a good sign. We rate the food here on a par with the Asiana Nepalese Restaurant in Altrincham where we have eaten previously. All in all we would have no hesitation in returning to the Kathmandu and would definately recommend it to others.

The food is excellent and in good proportions - its the best Indian food I've had in Manchester! The seating is a bit resticted and tight but the food makes up for it definitely :)
