The Tavern Co. & Mexican BBQ was established in 1990 by American Keith Gurney, referred to as the 'second home for romantics' by the local press, the Tavern Co's restaurant and bar are both cosy, warm, candle lit havens with rich wooden textures and a really comfortable feel.
The Tavern Co. is family owned and operated and is dedicated to using only the finest, freshest ingredients and serving them in a relaxed and friendly environment.
The menu abounds with home-made Mexican chillies, barbecued burgers, ribs and authentic creole, and seafood dishes.
Lunch menus, daily specials and a children's menu are also available.
The Saturday and Sunday lunch is extremely popular - be sure you come in and try it!

Popped in with 10 friends yesterday for some hangover food having seen the menu on the Onionring app. Was pleasantly surprised to see it was full and didn't mind waiting for a table (especially as there were 11 of us!). Had a great breakfast and especially liked the bottomless coffees! Will certainly be back in the new year for some more food!

What a place! We passed there around about 1993/1994 looking for a nice evening meal-we saw candles in the window and happy faces inside. We had such a lovely time we have frequented this restaurant many, many times, even though we are about half an hour away from it. We have seen a couple of extensions and they expanded into next door and its never lost its charm. Sunday breakfasts are so cool....relaxing and a superb environment for family/couples/friends just chilling with the newspapers with the endless coffee/tea and great breakfasts. I've hardly talked about the food, but this is great. In all our times we have never ever had to complain about the quality of the food as it has been consistant! We love the atmosphere and the service is casual and friendly and they have in the passed catered for our children (before the days when they had a childs menu-which is now in place after we used to mention it on our visits).Its funny how there are some superb restaurants now in Liverpool but 20 years ago there were only a handful. This place and the one in the centre of Liverpool always makes my family leave being well fed by quality food and a great atmosphere and the staff are great with the children who have grown up in their baby seat sleeping as we enjoyed our meals. Always wanted to meet the owner Keith, to thank if for having a great place and our friends who stay always want to go for that lazy Sunday breakfast. We love the place as you can tell and I hope that if you are looking for great food in a casual setting you give it a go!
