Traditional, British[show 3 more photos]
Less than two minutes away from the hullabaloo of the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet on the M53/M56 interchange, you will find the Bunbury Arms; a lovely 17th Century country pub set in a wooded hamlet.
Noted for its food, this multi-award winning hostelry has become a haven for those who have witnessed the recent sad demise of the English Pub. Here you won’t find the usual ‘boil in the microwave’ plastic fare we have become so accustomed to. Instead, a team of chefs and cooks turn out hearty portions of both traditional and innovative dishes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Fresh fish is delivered daily and the large choice of daily chalkboard specials is complemented by the daily seafood specials.
The Bunbury offers separate daily lunchtime and dinner menus. In addition, for those in a hurry or perhaps on their lunch break, there is a huge weekday selection of sandwiches, snacks and salads for which orders can be taken in advance by e-mail, fax or phone.
Sundays start at 9.30am with the legendary Gourmet Breakfasts, which are available up until the stroke of noon. From then the aroma of bacon and black pudding is replaced by real gravy, made from roasted meat and vegetable pan juices. Platefuls of thickly sliced slivers of juicy beef, lamb, chicken or pork, topped with large home-made Yorkshire puds, oven-crisped roast potatoes, well-seasoned buttery mash and freshly steamed or roasted seasonal local vegetables, complete this tour de force.
Don’t forget the Bunbury is first and foremost a pub, popular with walkers, cyclists, canal boaters and most of all, lovers of real ale. The pub always has at least 4 well-kept ales, changing almost daily. Alan, the landlord, holds full Cask Marque accreditation for the quality of his ales and holds the unique distinction of having been presented with a Special Award from the Campaign for Real Ale for achieving over 25 entries in the annual Good Beer Guide. Not only that, the pub has won CAMRA Pub of the Year and Regional Summer Pub of the Year. It was even elected Canalside Pub of the Year a couple of years back (no mean feat when the canal is a 400 yard stroll away!)
So next time you’ve been to the Vue cinema, or you’re shopping at Cheshire Oaks or perhaps visiting the Blue Planet or Zoo; remember you are literally a couple of minutes away from Chester’s best kept secret, The Bunbury Arms.

With Current Affairs, General Trivia, Music and the Picture Round the Quiz represents the complete package. There is a cash draw and prizes of bottles of wine and CDs.
