Hesketh Tavern

British, Traditional

Built by the Hesketh family in the 1880’s to replace the old village inn ‘The Horse and Jockey’, the tavern has always been fondly loved by locals and travellers alike. The Almond family acquired the pub in 2005 and immediately closed for a £300k refurbishment to bring the pub back to its former glory. Along with decorating in and out, we reclaimed panelling from old churches, sourced antique furniture and re-framed and mounted turn-of-the-century photos of local scenes to give the pub that lost feel of the Great British Pub.

Carvery Meals
Our meals are now famous but we offer so much more than the best Sunday Dinner in Cheshire. Food serving hours are: Mon - Thurs: 1200-1430/1730-2030; Fri - Sat: 1200-2100; Sun: 1200-2030.

The Pub
The pub welcomes all but has a great local crowd and community rapport. Landlords James and Doug are often at the bar with the regulars of a tea-time, offering around free tapas to stop you rushing home! A mature crowd is encouraged (21 yrs +) and comfort is standard! We added The Hesketh Trail playground to our award-winning gardens and welcome families.

The Drinks
James personally looks after the cellar and the ten draught beers and ciders on offer. Adnams (Suffolk) and Theakstons (Yorkshire) bitter are poured to award-winning standard and the lagers are the coldest in town! Free of tie, James sources wines from the renowned Grants of St James, specializing in the popular New World Wines and selling each one by the glass. Bar serving hours are: Mon - Thurs: 1200-2300; Fri - Sat: 1200-0000; Sun: 1200-2230.

‘The Barn’
The last five years have seen growing success; so much so that we recently re-decorated and extended in 2010, with…The Barn.

Situated on the old back yard and taxi rank, ‘The Barn’ offers a separate 40+ dining covers (and occasional function hire) while allowing our drinkers to enjoy a relaxed cosy lounge area by the fire in the existing front dining room.

The outside signage was replaced, toilets re-furbished (new accessible too), furniture renovated and the whole pub decorated inside and out. We retain our promise; to be true to our tradition of quality, comfort and warmth but with a contemporary feel.

Jennifer Jolliff (Cheadle)

We booked a gathering for friends and family in the secluded part of The Hesketh' after my father's funeral a few weeks ago.
The service was amazing particularly a lady called Gemma who looked after us. The food was also amazing - healthy portions at reasonable prices. The Hesketh did us proud that day - I was very impressed!
