Dougie, Cheshire (08/12/2008) says.... What a find! found and read the menu on Onionring and that tempted us to make the journey and give it a try (about 30 mins from home), glad we did. The Sunday roast was exceptional, all local meats and the rest of the menu also carries a lot of locally sourced ingredients which is great to see. One minor thing - the hugh Yorkshire pudding was all crisp and air, prefer mine a bit stodgier! Good service thought - will be back!
Rob, Northwich (02/02/2008) says.... Called in to see what the fuss is all about and wasn't disappointed. Good honest gastro pub grub, proud to be using quality local ingredients. Attentive service without being patronising and a nice menu choice and wine selection. The deserts are amazing!!!
Catherine (14/11/2007) says.... We had lunch at the Duke today, and it was the perfect choice to get away from work for a nice meal. My friend had the Steak sanwich and I had the delicious club stack with chicken, bacon and egg. The service was friendly and efficient and I will recommend it to my colleagues.
Lynne, Buckley (03/08/2007) says.... I ate there last night with my husband and children, aged 6 and 4. Although the decor was standard gastropub brown leather sofas, the children were made very welcome as soon as we walked in. They do not have a children's menu but we could have ordered a mini-version of the adult choice. Additionally, the kitchen could make most pasta sauces or chicken nuggets if they were preferred. What a pleasant change to eat somewhere with good food that the whole family can enjoy - why should children have the standard kiddie slop? Anyway, we had 2 courses for £9.95, very good value - a creamy pasta dish to start followed by a slab of succulent pork with steamed green veg - all beautifully presented and delicious. The boys had homemade organic chicken nuggets - pieces of chicken in a wonderfully light, crisp batter with homemade crunchy chips followed by Cheshire Farm ice-cream. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and we shall definitely return.
Vicki, Northwich (30/05/2007) says.... Had dinner there yesterday evening, and it was a very pleasant evening. Staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. My partner had delicious carrot and orange soup for starters, I ordered sardines but couldnt eat them as just too many tiny bones. I mentioned that to the waitress who informed her manager it was removed from the bill. Main courses were outstanding... the local beef is pricey but delicious, and the veal was also very good. Only comment there is that there should have been some veg of some sort served with the Veal - only potatos and meat - which just let it down slightly. Desserts also excellent, and a nice relaxing coffee in the squishy sofas finished the evening perfectly. Would definitely recommend and definitely will return, but overall feel it is just a tad on the pricey side, which would be more justified if a couple of small improvements were made, i.e. some vegetables with the main course.
David, Northwich (08/03/2007) says.... Everything you need in a pub, 7 cask ales on, the Highgate Fury was a feast in itself. Apparently i'm told by the ladies the wine selection is great. Food totally first class, been in twice in 3 weeks & the menu has being different with some lovely local touches. An oasis for Cheshire! by the way first pub i've ever known to make their own bread, wonderful
Lesley from Kelsall (12/02/2007) says.... We went Sat eve and it was fairly busy. Good service if a little slow at times. Good food - my fish was beautifully cooked but the accompaniments were a not very exciting - a pity.
Jon Reed (12/12/2006) says.... We stumbled across this place at weekend. Great beers, good food and a nice place to go with the family. Will be back!
Helen, Heaton Moor (12/12/2006) says.... We went here for Sunday lunch and really can't fault anything - I had the 3 course lunch menu and everything was delicious, particularly the roast local pork and the chocolate and raspberry semi-freddo. The decor is stunning and very inviting on a wet & windy winter's day. The service was also impeccable - we'll definitely be going back.
