Fantastic location with many unusual artefacts and items! This is a typical country pub with great ales and food. I will certainly be returning with more friends to show off my latest find!
Our favourite restaurant! The food is always brilliant, and the service is superb. I am probably the fussiest eater in the world, and the chefs here will make anything you ask for. The menu is eclectic and ever changing - the quality of the food is second to none. The prices are extremely reasonable for such a great restaurant - the wine list is comprehensive and also reasonably priced. Visit as soon as you can for a wonderful dining experience - don't wait for a special occasion! Whether you are looking for a full-blown feast or just a couple of courses, The White Apron never fails to deliver. The staff are so friendly, every visit is a total pleasure.
My wife and I went to Indian Brasserie after seeing it on Onion Ring. We have been back now numerous time as all I can say is the food is great and the service attentive and not pushy. If you like Curry and trying something new - this is well worth a visit.
I haven't been to the Cottage for a few months, but I thought I was in a different restaurant as we walked through the door, all I could say was WOW !!!!! My guest who were from out of town were really impress they thought we were in a high end London restaurant. The service was spot on and food was sublime. We had a fantastic night and will be back again to show off the curry jewel of Warrington to some friends

14 of us ate here on Bank Holiday Sunday. Despite us changing table number and some people only having starters etc, the service was outstanding. How they didn't lose their temper with us, I'll never know. Food beautiful. I had Clam Chowder to start & half rack of dry rubbed ribs for main. Sat outside under the heaters after the meal. All in all, a great evening. We'll definitely return. Thanks!

My wife and I try to visit the Man Zen every other Sunday to dine at the Sunday buffet. There is always plenty of choice, the food is hot and very well prepared. We've never had a bad experience here and they were even able to cater for a family party of 25 with ease and impeccable service. Of all the Chinese restaurants in our area the Man Zen is always the one we travel that extra few miles for.

Fantastic value and great food! I chose 'Home' on the recommendation of OnionRing and due to it's proximity to a lovely B&B. Feeling a little tentative - what can you get for £5 - we found a pleasant ambiance and attentive staff - the place was full of diners.
The £5 menu for two courses is no joke. We wondered what the quality of food would be but were more than pleasantly surprised. My wife had the vegetable soup followed by the Italian chicken casserole and I had the grilled black pudding followed by the slow roast belly pork. Portion sizes were not large but were adequate - neither of us could manage desert (an extra £3 each). The food was definitely home cooked and of great quality.
Complete with a bottle of wine, the meal was £24.75 for everything. I just couldn't believe it!!!
If I had any complaint, it would be the relatively early last sitting. They recommend that you book, and I can see why as it was full, but the latest time we could book for was 7.30pm / 7.45pm. After saying that, the meal was in no way hurried, in fact, it was very relaxed.
If you want somewhere local to stay, I would strongly recommend you look at Ash Farm Country Guest House. Not the cheapest B&B in the world, but only 4 minutes walk away and fantastic quality... see the reviews!
To sum up what we thought of 'HOME'.... it was GREAT. Definitely worth trying before you disregard it on the basis of price!

a party of four us (under the name Hartley) had lunch with you yesterday and had nothing but praise for the food the service the atmosphere and the price. The conjurer was a bonus! (will recommend him). We haven't been to the Ashlea for some time but will certain be returning in the near future.
Background - Recommended by a work colleague. We planned to visit during the day, when the Blue Moon is a cafe, but were delayed and arrived early evening, when the cafe becomes a bistro. We were just in time for the 6.30pm meal deal menu of starter and main course for 2, inc bottle of excellent Chilean chardonnay (or any other house wine as there are a few), all for under £30. You can pay any difference and upgrade your wine. (See later for ambiance/atmosphere opinions...) Food - bistro review (not cafe) - really good. Me: mushroom risotto followed by pork medallions in a jus. Wife: good French onion soup, then very large, thick slices of leg of lamb (don't expect lamb shank) in an intense baby tomato and herb sauce - slightly too intense for my wife, but OK for me when I tried it. Both with one boiled potato each, plus green beans, finely shredded red cabbage, carrots. All served hot (yes, piping hot) in those white oversized shallow bowls rather than plates. No complaints at all. Ample portions, especially starters. Baguette slices with dipping balsamic sauce (no butter but I'm sure you could have some, if requested) and a free introductory fizzy 'kirsch' were also supplied. My wife asked for vanilla ice cream (not on the menu) and this came with 2 flaked chocolate sticks. And 2 spoons, in case I wanted to try it - which I did. The full bill including this extra dessert, a large americano coffee and a litre of fizzy water was £45 for 2. Worth it. Evening staff - very friendly, helpful and put you at ease straightaway. Friendly co-manager/owner. Atmosphere - American diner decor but with UK artefacts of 50s/60s memorabilia, inc prized possession jukebox, posters, neon signs etc. See the website. In the evening, I think this jukebox is turned off (during the day, can you put money into it and choose your own records?) and quieter background music is played - still retro music, but nothing too raucous. We're 'young-at-heart in our 50s' but def not the kind of people always chunnering on about how great the 1960s were. However, against my expectations, my wife said this was the best evening out she'd had for a long, long time, including our recent Greek holiday, just because the evening was a little quirky and out of the ordinary, with friendly staff and people. Timings - not sure how busy daytime (sounds like it is VERY busy). 6.30 evening was quiet, but soon 90% or more full with bookings and walk-ins by 8pm. Tables near the river, but this is probably best for daytime only. So book it. I think about 30 - 36 people could be fitted in. Location - follow signs to The Groves / The Boating House. You are basically heading down towards the river, then turning left past the bandstand and white suspension bridge. Look out for big blue sign on end of bay-windowed building. By the bandstand, also look out for nearby fabulous dark brown ceramics and gleaming brass gents Victorian (?) public urinals! That's another form of retro, but not quite as noisy. Usually.
Hope that all helps. I'll go back soon to try the daytime cafe meals, but would also return for another evening meal.

Visited Sunday evening 8.30pm 29 August 2010. Very cosy ambiance, friendly staff, shame about the food. Perhaps we chose badly but lukewarm food, limp salad and soggy chips are inexcusable. Very disappointed, we will not be visiting again.
Paid a visit for the first time last night on a Saturday. The service was very good and friendly. The food we ordered was hot and tasty. Overall you couldn't complain but I feel the decor is a little dated - that said still worth a visit.
Have been driving past Convivio for the last 2 years or so and as my last time in there was when it was paparazzi I finally decided to pop in with my 2 mates. It was a Saturday night and as we walked through the door we all looked at each other and thought not a chance as the place was heaving and a few people waiting in the foyer for tables. An Italian chap asked us if we like a meal or just a drink? We asked how long it the wait and he replied there is no wait as we could have a drink in the lounge bar! Walked into the stunning bar and there was an excellent atmosphere complimented by a great guitarist singer. Despite the bar being busy we were greeted by the barman and ordered a drink. ten minutes later I'm thinking 'this is my place' As we enjoying the music the Italian chap came up and asked us if we wanted a table as one become available. He took our drinks and escorted us down stairs to the restaurant. What can I say as soon as our food arrived and had a taste it reminded me of a place I went in Florence 10 years ago! Excellent!!

We had an excellent meal here this week to celebrate a family event. We had a warm welcome, excellent food and great customer service. We shall certainly be returning to Piccolino's Restaurant again.
Been visiting this restaurant for a number of years. Business lunches are excellent value. Staff are always welcoming and attentive. Would recommend the Chinese Delight to all.
Went for dinner here on Thursday evening. Our third visit. As usual the place was very busy and vibrant. I had a starter of crab salad and my partner had the warm goats cheese and beetroot. Our mains were the crispy belly pork and the duck confit which were both absolutely lovely,as were the starters. The vegetables that accompanied it were imaginative but the broccoli was rather under cooked. We didn't have dessert but finished with liqueurs. The house red which was a Merlot was lovely and well priced.
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant. Went with family for 1st time on Wednesday, food was excellent, friendly staff, quality wine, and good value. This really is the best restaurant we've found round here, total bill for 4 was a shade over £100 including drinks (using onionring vouchers) and that included 2 fillet steaks. Loved it.
As a newly wed couple, we embarked upon Chester for a few days as part of our honeymoon. We dined at The Gal on Friday 13th August and my wife and I were simply blown away. We had the evening set menu which for two was under £50.00. If The Gal was in London, this would by now be famous nationwide. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!!!!

THE FOX HAS NEW OWNERS!!! It has been completely refurbished & re-decorated throughout. The food is excellent, the ale tastes great & the staff are really helpful & friendly. Gone are the hard wooden chairs, they've been replaced with contemporary leather chairs & the tables are mostly oak & decorated beautifully in the restaurant. It's still a traditional pub but with a modern new look. They have a wide selection of menus including breakfast, lunch, bar & a la carte and a carvery on 4 days of the week. There's a new climbing frame with slides in the rear garden & the hanging baskets & flowers make it look really appealing from the outside. GOOD LUCK TO THE NEW OWNERS - KEEP IT UP!!!!!
