Mel, Onionring

So many pubs and restaurants offer a Gourmet burger these days, yet so few seem to hit upon the right combination of ingredients. As with Maccies special sauce on their Big Mac, a burger also needs an element that makes it unique and special - although Im not comparing a Big Mac with what is served here, oh no this is worlds apart. Before I get into detail about the burgers - and lets face it thats why we're all here - it is worth a mention of what a great job GBK has done on the refurb of this branch. The paint had just dried when we arrived (just 2 hours earlier our waiter tells us). Its much cooler, subtle stony colours and the huge open plan kitchen add to the buzzing atmosphere. We made our way upstairs to the balcony terrace. James, our waiter talked us through the menu and we learnt that RH was a Resident Hero, a burger that customer come back for time and again. We both picked one - a Camemburger and a Taxidriver. Both came in a Brioche bun that added a little sweetness to the equation. Add to that a great, well seasoned burger - then things get interesting. Camamburger came topped with Camembert (you may have seen that coming), a hash brown and a mix of mayo and relish that all came together in a smooth and beautifully balanced burger. And we were worried the Camembert might over power it all. The Taxidriver proved to be a true classic burger, sticky American cheese holding an onionring and dill pickle in place, a great combo of mayo and relish. Really impressive burgers, the sweet potato chips and homeslaw were pretty good too! I'll be back soon, Ive got the rest of the menu to work through. :-)
