Frankie's gamble pays off...with 50% off!

Despite never being one to gamble with my food, even I was powerless to resist a shake up to my normal dining routine after reading the impressive menu of Fahrenheit; the restaurant nestled in the luxurious, Casino-come-fine dining establishment The Genting Club in Manchester City Centre.

Led down a grandeur staircase, we found ourselves on the sidelines of the casino where excitement levels were infectious as ambitious players placed bets as they hopped expertly from table to table. Venturing a mere 4 steps to your left brings you to the entrance of the stylish and inviting Fahrenheit Restaurant.

The vibrant atmosphere of the casino is pacified as you enter the tranquil surroundings of the restaurant. Exposed stone walls, sleek furnishings and splendid art-deco inspired features.

As we relaxed into our comfortable booth, in surroundings Jay Gatsby would be proud to call his own, we shared a mutual appreciation for the relaxing mood the restaurant released as we pondered the menus.

Our server Stephanie was attentive and advisory, characteristics I always love when dealing with a menu which boasts several agonising choices of starters. We ordered delicious cocktails which drank as easily as fresh fruit punch as I continued to struggle between options.

“Well you could each order a starter and have a third to share?” She offered.

Oh Steph, you’re definitely my kinda woman!

Finally coming to a decision, we placed our orders and allowed anticipation to grow as mouth-watering aromas escaped from surrounding tables, giving us a delicious sneak-peak of courses to come.

Our first courses arrived, my Black Pudding Scotch Egg was a work of art before my very eyes. The thin outer-layer of the Scotch egg shell was crisp and sizzling from the fryer, a perfect crunch; the savoury flavour worked hand in hand with the herby taste of sausage meat mixed with rich bites of soft black pudding.

The pièce de résistance was the runny, chucky egg centre which glowed a magnificent orange, as vivid as the lights which adorned the tops of the one-armed bandits. Combined with the drizzles of wholegrain mustard aioli, this was a fantastically decadent take on a British classic.

My friend excitedly began to work through his starter of Seared Scallops. A dish combining scallops and chorizo, two ingredients I’d have never considered putting together on a generous layer of oozy, glistening risotto, I was eager for my friend’s verdict. Imagine my delight as he reluctantly pushed his plate towards me to sample myself! I scooped a generous portion of the risotto and pleasantly placed half a scallop and slice of chorizo on top to get a full taste of the action.

The risotto, infused with luxurious flavours of coriander and saffron provided a marvellously wealthy base to the dish, with tastes of meaty chorizo balancing a contrasting chunky texture from the scallop. Incredibly rich in flavour and size, it was truly an indulgent way to start the evening.

Albeit satisfied, the standard of the starter made us hungry for more as we eagerly awaited the arrival of our mains.

Lavish fillets of seabass lay luxuriously across a generous bed of tomato linguine. Thick, plump tiger prawns poking out temptingly in between strands. I dug in excitedly, the seabass falling apart effortlessly from its beautifully crispy skin as I forked a mouthful with a twirled portion of pasta.

Soft and mild flavours from the delicate flakes of fish contrasted deliciously to the chunky tresses of roasted tomato linguine which gave real depth and a satisfying comfort element to the dish. The perfectly pudgy prawns were meaty and succulent, the lip-smacking cherries on top of my savoury sundae.

The lamb was cooked perfectly pink to my co-diners preference. Grilled using their legendary Josper Grill, the meat retained an authentic smokey flavour sweetened by the delicate splashes of gravy and accompanied by crunchy, roasted cubes of potato.

It seems most establishments seem to be cottoning on to the genius invention that is triple-cooked chips, and Fahrenheit is no exception; eyeing them on the menu, I eagerly placed my side order alongside my pasta dish – hey, if there’s anything that compliments a plate of carbs perfectly, it’s a further side order of carbs.

They arrived almost crackling against the baking parchment they were served in, perfectly fluffy inside and crunchingly crispy on the outside with that beautiful earthy flavour from the skin still etched into the spud.

Taking a break in-between courses, we were invited to experience a different sort of chip as we tried our hands in some classic casino entertainment. Whilst it was somewhat of a near-impossible task to turn myself and my co-diner into the next Ace and Ginger, we practiced our poker-faces as Mark, our teacher for the evening, took us through the rules of roulette.

Most certainly an expert in his field, Mark taught us the basics; how to place our bets, the rules of the table and shared some fantastically entertaining anecdotes of his time as a croupier.

Satisfied with our practice, Mark set us off into the wild to make our fortune…or at the very least lose all of our money and have a tremendous amount of fun whilst doing so.

As we won some, and quite predictably lost some, we were mesmerised by skilled dealers and players alike. Unable to keep up we happily resided back to our table where dessert was sure to be anything but a gamble.

Both opting for the White Chocolate Cheesecake, we marvelled at its presentation of the cleverly sliced, honey-glazed fruit which was admired for all of several seconds before lust overcame me and I dove fork-first into the main event.

Smooth, sweet and with just the right amount of buttery biscuit crust, I sank into luscious cheesecake euphoria as my taste buds worked through the thick and creamy base which melted oh-so-satisfyingly on the tongue.

Rich yet delicate, each mouthful was delectably moreish and added up to possibly the most scrumptious cheesecake I’ve ever had! (And believe me, I’ve had a lot…)

Suitably stuffed, my fellow food-enthusiast and I drank in the remaining moments of our evening as we watched the impressive, glowing bar pick up its pace as the night owls set themselves up for a night of table thrills and martini bills.

As one of the most unique dining experiences I’ve had, I would most definitely recommend you try Farenheit and The Genting Club Casino. With fantastic servers and a management team dedicated to the enjoyment of its diners, it’s a definite must-do. And what’s more, if you dine during March you can even enjoy an evening of tantalising treats with a marvellous 50% off your food bill, giving you some extra bucks to play with if you’re feeling lucky.

Not a gambling man? Not to worry, there’s absolutely no obligation to stay and play, if the only thing you’re after is a winner’s dinner; you can rest assure that whatever you order, enjoyment will be a sure bet.
