Seriously good food anybody?
I decided to treat some friends last week to dinner at Fahrenheit on Oxford Road. Why?? Because I am a great person, they have recently relaunched a new restaurant, and more importantly they also had a meal deal on......
Let me tell you about this meal deal as it is truly worth sharing. You arrive to a nice glass of bubbly (very good bubbly at that) and settle into an extensive set menu with plenty of choice (4 starters/4 mains/4 desserts) plus a free £5 bet afterwards should you wish to have a flutter!
Not only this, but should you wish to tuck into the a la carte menu too (as did some of my fellow diners), you can do.
Across the table our starters consisted of a magnificent Duck Confit with Champagne Parfait served with a Thyme Jelly and Rhubarb Compote which was very nice. Not too heavy and the sour acidic compote cut through the duck very well. The Salt and Pepper Squid starter was also a hit which came with a dipping sauce consisting of cucumber and chilli - again a delicate starter with a nice light batter on the molluscs.
Next up were the delicious mains! I ordered a nice rare 10oz “Mathers Black Gold” Sirloin which was cooked perfectly and came with huge steak-cut triple cooked chips. This 35 day matured steak was seriously good and you could taste the high quality – really really good. It also came with the house sauce which was a peppercorn sauce with a strong kick of Bourbon and chilli flakes. The smokiness of this suited the steak well as it had been cooked on a Josper Grill (which is a charcoal oven giving it a real BBQ taste).
Other mains which I inevitably tried (well I was paying!) included a lovely huge hake battered with beer served with more of the very moreish triple cooked chips. Another stand out classic was the Honey Roasted Free Range Pork Belly with creamy Cauliflower Purée and a sweet Apple Sauce. This modern looking main stood tall with the right amount of saltiness bouncing off the honey glaze, caramelised apple and finished extremely well with the creamy cauliflower – a real sophisticated dish.
Yet another cracking main (and there were lots of these!) was the Crispy Roasted Duck Breast with Butternut and Red Thai Curry Sauce. The duck really stood out with both bold flavours and colours, and was served in a beautifully deep bowl which kept surprising us with more colour and taste!
We were also at the casino to watch some stand up which to be honest; I was unsure how it’d work. I was very wrong about this and was a great (and intimate) gig with three great comedians. We were kept entertained for a good hour or so and left wanting more (much like the menu).
We returned to our table and tucked into a really good cheeseboard which finished the meal off lovely. The only regret I have is not sticking on 19 several times on blackjack afterwards!
