Frankie gets patriotic with Hard Rock Cafe

What is it about good, old-fashioned patriotism that just makes you so ravenously hungry!?

St George’s Day hit our merry country this weekend, and I know what you’re thinking; “Did I really take advantage and celebrate this country as my food-loving forefathers would have wanted me to?”

Well not to worry dear friend, thankfully, Hard Rock Cafe have provided a solution to make sure you can extend your celebration of St George’s Day AND satisfy your appetite at the same time.

Introducing, the exclusive St George’s Day Burger; a feast made up of the best ingredients good ole England has to offer, combined on one glorious plateful to satisfy your heritage.

We arrived on Friday night, the eve of St George’s Day and as always with any visit to the Hard Rock, the ambience was electric.

We were taken care of by Georgie, who, like all Hard Rock servers was super friendly and personable. We immediately found common ground through a shared loved of mustard and as you can imagine, the rest was history.

Before the main event, we treated our taste buds to the exclusive G n’Tea cocktail; a unique spin on the classic English favourite, cleverly cooked up by the clever Hard Rock team and served in a delightfully fashioned Hendrick’s teapot.

An intriguing twist on a traditional tipple, Hendrick’s Gin is infused with Earl Grey tea and finished with a twist of basil and lime creating a beverage of refreshing sweet and sour flavours. Dangerously light, you could easily sink these baby’s by the potful, but not to worry – your main course is sure to soak it up.

Visible from the opposite end of the restaurant, the burg is somewhat of a beautiful monster. Combining locally sourced produce, a classic patty is topped with a classic creamed horseradish, bubbling Lancashire cheese and a rather generous slice of rare English roast beef, finished with a refreshing layer of watercress encased in a toasted bun.

A side of rich Bovril gravy serves as the perfect dipping component for both burger and fries (I’ll get to those beauties in a minute.) Thick and flavourful with elements of a classic onion gravy, the flavour soaked into the thick and fluffy bun adding further richness to an already glorious bite.

Both meats were thick, succulent and perfectly cut. The juicy patty made even more luscious by the layer of delicately flavoured but oh-so welcomed Lancashire cheese, with lashings of hot horseradish to compliment the quintessential British beef flavours. Each bite was a tender and taste explosion experience; incredibly more-ish, you will need to demonstrate incredible self-restraint to avoid inhalation.

The use of gunpowder mustard on the fries gave them an original, smokey flavour and a slightly softer texture to the average fry. Like perfectly portioned edible spoons, I used these to transport the gravy straight from side pot to mouth, and it was bloody marvellous.

Each component of the meal from the fresh, iced tea tastes to the juicy bites of beef on beef complimented each other perfectly. Using English-cupboard staples of Bovril and mustard gave the dish as a whole a wonderfully homely and satisfying feel, cleverly designed into the meal to really show off what our fine country has to offer.

Mouth watering? I thought so. Luckily for you there’s still time to grab a slice of the action thanks to Hard Rock’s extended celebration of the Legend Patron Saint, giving you the opportunity to get your hands on the good stuff right up until end of play on Tuesday the 26th of April.

So what are you still doing here?! Switch off, wear your England flag as a cape (as well as other respectable clothes obviously...) and get yourself down to Hard Rock Manchester, and don’t forget your appetite! Your country needs you!
