Be deliciously different at the Indian Ocean!
With a week to go before National Vegetarian Week 2010 (NVW), the Indian Ocean in Ashton-under-Lyne, is getting ready to put some spice into your leaves!
The restaurant has cooked up a special vegetarian menu to mark the Week and is encouraging everyone to be ‘deliciously different’ and try something new from 24th – 30th May.
The Indian Ocean itself is trying to be different in its approach to vegetarian food. The restaurant is hoping to do more than just offer some novelty dishes during NVW; it is aiming to break down some stereotypical views of Indian food with a carefully developed menu.
In Britain, Indian food is typically viewed as very meaty with heavy curries such as Chicken Tikka Massala, Lamb Rogan Josh or snacks like Shish Kebabs. Things couldn’t be more different in the country itself where over 400 million people are vegetarian meaning tasty vegetarian meals are always on the menu.
Indian Ocean owner Nahim Aslam is committed to producing authentic Indian dishes, particularly from the Kashmiri and Punjabi regions and feels strongly about offering genuine and extensive vegetarian options to his customers. He says, “We’ve always had a great selection of vegetarian dishes but we wanted to create a full menu for this year’s National Vegetarian Week to show people we mean business when it comes to vegetarian food.”
Nahim is also keen to point out that there is no compromise in flavour in his vegetarian dishes and that they are all packed full of flavour, using only the freshest, tastiest herbs and spices, “There are still big bold choices available like the Potato and Channa Puri and Vegetable Bhuna, but also lighter, more delicately spiced dishes like the Matter Paneer. Just like in Indian, there really is something for everyone.”
There are, of course, also many health benefits to a vegetarian diet making a visit to the Indian Ocean during NVW, not only a treat for your taste buds, but your figure too. So if you want to discover a fresh new way to taste and love greener and healthier Indian food, come along to the Indian Ocean. You don’t need to be vegetarian; you just need to be deliciously different!
