SK brings healthy Oriental Takeaway to the N-West!

Healthy eating isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when talking about takeaway food but that’s all about to change with the launch of Straits Kitchen (SK) in Urmston, Manchester.

SK on Flixton Road, is the first of a chain of ‘Wellbeing Eating’ oriental takeaways to launch in the North West, and is the brainchild of Simon Chung a respected figure in the North West finance sector.
SK has turned takeaway on its head by offering healthier alternatives to oriental classics, as well as a wealth of new and exciting dishes based on the philosophy of ‘Wellbeing Eating’. Not only that, it also breaks tradition by opening all day (10.30am until 10.30pm), offering morning brunch, lunch, tea and dinner dishes to meet the needs of its customers. SK even serves specially sourced fair-trade coffee, premium green tea and homemade lemonade for customers looking for a drink on the go.

From its Signature Boneless Pork Steak Ribs which contain 70% less saturated fat than traditional belly pork ribs, to its low fat sweet and sour dishes that contain 40% less sugar and salt than typical recipes, SK delivers healthier food that it claims doesn’t sacrifice flavour to achieve its aim.

Simon explained: “As a parent and a keen cook, healthy food has always been something I’ve been passionate about. But the truth is that unless you can afford to pay a premium at an expensive restaurant, it’s almost impossible to get great quality oriental food that is healthy, convenient, quick and most importantly that is tasty. There was clearly a gap in the market for a takeaway that made fresh, healthy oriental cuisine much more accessible.
“SK was the answer. For the past six years I’ve been working with my head chef Yuen to research classic dishes and create alternative versions that maximise the flavour but cut out unnecessary fats, salts and additives, as well as develop a host of new and exciting dishes that show oriental food at its best.”

Everything on the menu has been thought about in detail, right down to the steamed rice which is cooked with oriental stock rather than plain water to pack in maximum flavour. Even the kitchen equipment itself has been made to order to fit the SK recipes, which can all be viewed via the ‘kitchen cam’ that streams live to a plasma TV in the waiting area.

With online ordering at www.skeating.com and easy to search categories including spicy foods, vegetarian options, healthiest choice, comfort food or carbohydrates, not to mention options such as special ‘Light Size’ portions, it seems SK certainly has something for anyone wanting a gourmet oriental meal in the comfort of their own home.
