Hobo Mojitos & Hot Umami Sandwiches
As the socialite I am, I was in Chester this week showing my face around the various hotspots of the city. On my way to the train station I popped into Revolution for some lunch and found myself no longer in a 1990s sweaty university bar full of students learning to drink vile luminous vodka shots (what was that blue one?!), but instead, a tasteful restaurant with great music, happy staff and a menu stuffed full of comfort and originality.
Yes, they still have that blue drink, but the focus of this modish bar is now on the food, and frankly, I am delighted by this.
I plunged straight in and ordered a sandwich. After all, I had to keep my productivity up as I had my annual appraisal in the afternoon and the thought of a gargantuan burger would send me straight to slumberland.
But this was no normal sarnie. It had salt beef in it which to me is like corned beef on crack. Real salty moreish umami here and with mac n’ cheese and French’s topping (didn’t I mention this?!), it did the opposite to a siesta and left me bolt upright wanting another savoury hit. Fries were top notch too, I was happy with my decision and all for under a tenner.
So happy in fact that I deemed an appraisal a stupid thing to do on a Wednesday afternoon, and decided to order some cocktails.
To compensate for my lack of work, I decided to do a little cocktail recipe for all you Brian Flanagan’s out there (don’t tell me you’ve never watched Cocktail). The nice barkeep decided that their Hobo Mojito is a good un’, and so here it is.
YOU WILL NEED:
One tin can (use a washed dog food one)
One bottle of Sailor Jerrys (you’re going to want more than one)
Some limes
Pineapple juice
Some passion fruit puree
Crushed ice (rolling pin some cubes)
Caster sugar
Mint leaves
TO MAKE:
Get your tin, and add a double shot of Sailor Jerrys, the juice from half a lime, 2 teaspoons of caster sugar, 2 double shots of pineapple juice, single shot of passion fruit puree. Then get a big spoon and churn it all together. Half fill with crushed ice and 10 mint leaves and churn again. Then top with more ice, mint sprig and piece of lime.
Bish bash bosh, you’re drinking an ace mojito but look like a tramp!
Can’t be bothered? Neither can I - so do what I did and go there instead. £7.50 and I dare you to try and drink more than me........EIGHT.
And so what if I missed my train, missed my appraisal and got wet. I was full of real goodness from Rev (what us cool cats call it) and this little piece will help keep my boss happy. Go, it’s ace.
