3 courses, 2 celebs and 1 fantastic meal
Wednesday night, always a bit dull, so we thought come on lets head into town, why the heck not. After a marathon game of paper, scissors, stone to decide who was driving (I won, good old faithful rock) we decided to head to lovely King street and even lovelier looking Rosso. What a cracking building by the way, worth a few pound on any dish if you ask me.
Nice welcome, and was offered a drink at the bar or straight to food, after my big ‘rock’ win I thought I‘d maximise this so we headed to bar. The cocktail list is significant to say the least, so I left myself in the barman’s hands and he whipped up a and quick cocktail featuring prosseco and Aperol which was lovely and light, ideal before a big meal. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Wednesday, and had a nice buzz about it.
We were seated in a nice booth, the menu has some classic Italian dishes on, some great sounding meat options - I opted for braised beer meatballs to start and turbot for main.
The meat balls for were cheesy, tomatoey and delicious, hearty Italian dish for a winter’s night. Partners Calamari tower (again decent portion!) was ‘good’ and well cooked apparently (he wasn’t very chatty as sulking about the driving thing).
Quick note to say we both thought it was good the nice waiter came back to check, not just the throw away ‘everything ok with your starters?’ He seemed actually to care if we liked it, this was a theme throughout and just little things like this make Rosso stand out. Anyway I digress....
Mains arrived, just as ‘her off the tv’ (as partner described her), ‘you know... was in the jungle, think she’s got a footballer boyfriend’ – this didn’t really narrow it down too much, walked by.
The Turbot was light and fluffy, with a really lovely prosecco and lemon butter, highlight though might just be the three king prawns that came with it, melt in the mouth. Partner had gone for a steak (for a change), the fillet came on a hot stone, sizzling away, with 3 sauces and lots of chunky chips and salad (forget the need for sides!). The meat was tasty and succulent, basically all you want in a steak.
Celeb number two must have just finished his pud, (although he might have skipped and may just be on the carbs now, training up for a big flight) as he was heading out. Anyway, Despite being rather stuffed, we went for a dessert between us, rude not to, and the very decent crème brulee was gone in a flash. Time for home and a lie down after three storming, and very filling courses, I’m sure Ms Flanagan and Mr Khan were doing the same.
Pics are the starters, turbot main (looks a bit like a piece of toast, but was lovely Turbot), Fillet Steak main, and the restaurant.
I was trying some effects on the pics incase you hadn’t noticed.
