Yara; Lebanese for yum yum!

My friends laughed at me yesterday when I told them that I had booked a table at Yara for 7pm.

“Why are you booking it? It’s bang in the middle of the week and will be dead, not like they have any offers to entice you in on a sunny Wednesday eve”.

You should have seen my beautiful smug face when we turned up – RAMMED it was. Oh....good move Mel. It IS busy, very busy.

Yara is very well known in Alty for producing mouth-watering char-grilled meats with summer salads and their BYO policy. Quite interesting the ‘bring your own’ thing, it tempts you to get a really good bottle from somewhere like Corks Out instead of plumping for the second from bottom on the wine list.

We opted to get a lot of food, more than necessary really, but it is very easy to do so as they have a vast selection of appetizing starters.

The starters we chose included two Potato Kibbehs (£4) which were golden balls of deep fried glory teaming up the super powers; mashed potato and minced lamb – INCREDIBLE. We also picked four Falafels (£4); deep fried chickpea cakes with a tahineh sauce, ten slices of Hallumi (£4.50) slices charred on coals with lemon juice and ten Sujok (£4.90) which were a kind of spicy sausage similar to chorizo in texture and taste but instead of pork, it was lamb.

The whole lot was gorgeous and to be honest was enough for me, however I am a greedy pig and demanded more.

Up next were the mains from our nice waiters (who were on the ball throughout the night as more and more people turned up – all who had booked).

These included two skewers of succulent chicken breast (£9.50) which were light in flavour but lovely nevertheless, two skewers of tender lamb (£9.50) with a spicy chilli sauce, about eight juicy lamb chops (£13) which were served with some nice Shami Rice which came with shredded vermicelli noodles and a really flavoursome Greek salad (£4) which went well with everything.

All of this fine food fed four full friends, all of whom left extremely satisfied at just £20 per person.

Whether you have never been here before or (like me) it’s been a while, I strongly recommend going to Yara. Just make sure you book.
