Mish Mash adds a tasty twist of flavours to Chorlton’s bohemian mix

MISH Mash restaurant and bar opens in Beech Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, on Saturday July 25th, producing classic British cooking which incorporates global flavours in a menu which is fresh and funky, interesting and delicious.

Owner and mine host James Plant has 25 years’ experience in the restaurant business and has run family restaurant Dinks in Wilmslow, as well as larger operations such as Simply Heathcote’s and Jamie’s Italian.

James, 39, opens Mish Mash after almost two years as General Manager at the Restaurant Bar & Grill in Alderley Edge. James and head chef Lloyd Hesom will bring their love of playful culinary combinations to the former Methodist chapel and add to the bohemian vibe of Beech Road, already the home of numerous independents.

Mish Mash will feature 60 covers and James says: “The menu is made up of one part British with a twist (like Mussels Steamed in Cider or the Smoked Salmon with Earl Grey Dressing), one part international (eg Thai meatballs or Chicken Satay) and one part quirky (such as Mojito Chicken and the Chocolate and Cherry Pots).

If Mish Mash has a signature dish, it could be the Mojito Chicken, combining the flavours of the Mojito – with Rum, Lime and Mint marinating succulent chicken thighs, all flambéed in golden rum, sizzled with lime juice , and accompanied by a punchy jalapeno salsa.

Another innovation is the Cosmo Salmon, tying together the fruits of the classic cocktail with fabulous wild salmon, which goes well with the cranberry, lemon vodka and orange oil. A wide and strong range of vegetarian dishes, such as Pear, Pepper and Parmesan salad, will also play to the tastes of the Chorlton clientele.

James says that Mish Mash will surf the wave of ‘foodie culture’ interest in ethical and local sourcing of produce from farms and breweries around Manchester. “I’m confident that our offering will be second to none in terms of fantastic flavours, sustainability and ethical sourcing, all with an exciting twist,” he says.

“People are connecting more with what they eat and drink, seeing the rise in organic and whole food, and understanding where their drinks, meat and fish come from. By connecting with the producers and suppliers, we can ensure a sustainable relationship with the world around us.

“Once people try the great tastes and styles created by smaller, independent producers, it's hard to go back to bland, mainstream offerings. Flavours abound these days, so more than ever it is the time to experiment. We live in an incredible area for flavour and Mish Mash will showcase the produce we have around us.”

Offering great beers and cocktails, Mish Mash’s adventurous spirit is well equipped to encourage quirky combos such as Mexican Fajitas with cherry beer, a complex mix of fruits and spices. James also promises new flavours with rum, vodka and gin infusions – and is even perfecting Port Gummy Bears to go with local cheeses.

MishMash has been designed by Mike Maddocks in a natural and quirky style to match the concept, which will be complemented by local artists providing urban art murals, and exceptional canvases from established artists like Charming Baker.

A craft beer menu will complement the wines and lagers on the drinks menu, showcasing the very best of the incredible local breweries to be found in the Manchester and South Manchester area.
