About Joseph Benjamin

Joseph Benjamin is a Chester restaurant owned and run by brothers Ben and Joe Wright. The idea behind the restaurant is simple – top quality food and drink in a comfortable and relaxed environment, prepared with honesty and integrity and served with care and attention.

The restaurant has held a Michelin 'Bib Gourmand' award (“offering good food at reasonable prices”) since 2012.

Joseph Benjamin opens at 9am for coffee and breakfast. Lunch is served from noon till 3pm and then, on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday, dinner is served from 6pm.

Passionately averse to the pretentiousness and fussiness of many new restaurant developments Ben and Joe are personally immersed in every aspect of the restaurant – head Chef Joe taking care of all things kitchen-related and Ben managing 'front of house' and 'doing the books' in his sleep.

Joe and his team put together a short menu of locally and seasonally focussed dishes that changes completely every few weeks and is broadly described as modern-British-European.

Total Score:
Exceptional produce and relaxing atmosphere. I had been in for a glass of wine before but had not had food visited on Saturday with my sister and mother and Aunty, it was amazing the food was visually stunning and some of the freshest tastiest food I have eating out, really great staff who looked smart and were always near by for help but did not linger, I cant believe how the food is reasonably priced when the food you receive is out of this world top restaurant style. If you are in the Chester area and want top class food that is fresh and wonderfully prepared, in a lovely warm atmosphere go here!!!!!

Booked a table here as we've been wanting to dine here for ages having seen them on Onionring and the Michelin Guide. Was our wedding anniversary too so was for a special occasion. Food was really really good. Steak tartare was first class with the right amount of pickled veg. The salmon special starter was also very good. Mains of pig cheek was fantastic, just like pulled pork and the sea trout was also good (although far too salty skin with the samphire). The chocolate brownie was brilliant with lots of gooey centre plus the Prosecco was great value for money. If you are looking for a locally sourced restaurant with good atmosphere and food, make sure you book JB!
