About The Architect

The Architect is going to be a classic pub restaurant within Chester's city walls overlooking the racecourse at Roodee.

We have named it the Architect after Thomas Harrison, a prolific Georgian architect who designed the Grosvenor Bridge and much of Chester Castle, among many other classical structures. He designed the building as his own residence, and lived there for many years. Charles Cockerell, a fellow architect and contemporary, described the house as '..well conceived, broad, elegant and simple'.

The pub is a story of two halves: turn right through the glass connecting passage and the original Georgian building has cosy, domestic rooms that naturally lend themselves to a series of intimate dining rooms in classic style. Turn left into the new garden room and you'll find a spacious open plan room with a large bar at its heart and a more buzzy, pubby feel to things, with glazed doors leading out to the dining terrace.

Our menu will have a spine of freshly prepared, classic British dishes, complemented by more exotic influences from other parts of the world: in other words, modern British cookery.
