'BATTLE OF THE CHEFS' EVENING AT THE BELLE EPOQUE
Celebrating the Knutsfood Food Festival, two of the North West’s most enduring chefs recreated one of their earliest TV battles.
Simon Rimmer and David Mooney first met in the Granada studios, over 10 years ago They enjoyed many culinary challenges – some great, some not so! (David remembers his stir fried liquorice allsort dessert with great shame!)
As Belle Epoque has hosted many stylish functions over the years, the 100 guests were obviously very well catered for, but the pressure was intense behind the kitchen door. Both chefs used the fabulous ingredients that Belle Epoque has become renowned for, but putting their respective twists to each dish.
On the passé, the light-hearted banter soon stopped as the orders started flowing. Both chefs baring their competitive streaks. Wonderful to see over 100 people devouring Andy Holt’s Black Pudding, Free Range Guineafowl and Peover Apple Tart.
Guests on the night were voting without knowing which chef’s food they had ordered. For the winner? Bragging rights – until the return at Simon’s Earle Restaurant early next year.
Plates cleared, votes counted and the accouncement made ……Win by a short head for Mr Rimmer. Revenge will be taken at Earle in January.
