Bienvenue à La Popote!

After spending most of their lives in the top-end restaurant industry in South Africa and becoming a household name, where their names were synonymous with the highest quality and with many awards and accolades under their belt, including catering for amongst many others such dignitaries such as HRH Prince Philip and two South African Presidents, Dutch born Victor and Scottish born Lynne moved to the Highlands of Scotland where for 9 years they ran and put on the map a small country house hotel Minmore House, winning a string of prestigious awards for quality of food and hospitality in the process. But, as they did not own the hotel they felt it was high time to find their own place so....

At the beginning of 2009 and despite recession, Cheshire beckoned. So they took the plunge, (foolhardy some might say, but life goes on) and opened a small restaurant, farm shop and coffee shop, all situated in a renovated farm steading in the pretty village of Marton, near Macclesfield.

Victor and Lynne are absolutely passionate about the quality of food and service they offer as they ever were and utterly dedicated to their craft and in the short time since opening in March 2009 been rewarded with several great reviews and an excellent reputation for offering something very special and personalized in terms of food and hospitality. Having spent half a lifetime in South Africa and with so many wonderful memories of that time, then a glorious chapter in the most beautiful part of Scotland and now with the pretty Cheshire chapter well under way they have both come to the firm conclusion that it doesn't matter where you are in the world, what the customer wants is absolutely the same; A warm welcome, consistently excellent quality of food and caring about the customer in a heartfelt way. And that is what they continue to do in Cheshire.

They warmly invite you to come and taste the La Popote experience....

About La Popote

Bienvenue a La Popote. La Popote Restaurant is a small family owned French Bistro situated in the pretty village of Marton, Cheshire, seven miles from the town of Macclesfield. The restaurant is housed in a renovated farm steading and overlooks beautiful Marton Church, the oldest wooden timbered church in Europe.

Since opening in May 2009, La Popote has quickly gained a reputation for excellence and made their mark in Cheshire, offering something very special, really fabulous food combined with warm friendly personalised hospitality.

La Popote the name means a small cooking pot (everyone asks!) or colloquially 'What's Cooking'.

The original La Popote was opened in Durban South Africa in 1974, and over twelve years it became a successful and legendary restaurant which is still reminisced over by many, especially Victor's classic Moules mariniere and rack of lamb!! So with so many happy memories of that time we just had to reinvent it here in Cheshire, England! Other restaurants they owned that may be remembered by South Africans in the UK are L'Artiste at the Natal Playhouse Durban, Manna House Underberg, Manna House Hilton, Le Chalet, Pietermaritzburg.

Owners veteran restaurateurs Victor and Lynne Janssen have spent a lifetime in the field of good food, both in the Highlands of Scotland and for many years in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa and their names have become synonymous with quality.

Why not come and see for yourself! A Bientot!
