Have your cake and eat it this Christmas
Panettone is becoming a popular choice in British homes this Christmas with health-conscious families opting for the Italian Christmas dessert over traditional British Christmas pudding. Sicilian restaurant NUI in Manchester is urging people to choose Panettone - the healthier and lighter option - to help cut back on calories this Christmas.
The traditional Sicilian Restaurant NUI, which is located upstairs in the Orient near the Great Hall in the Trafford Centre, is serving the healthier option which contains just 198 calories compared to a whopping 330 calories in traditional Christmas pudding.
The British Heart foundation is warning that on Christmas Day we consume on average 7,000 calories a day and by making simple changes we can still enjoy Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.
The recipe at NUI has been handed down through generations and originated in Milan. Also known as a ‘Sweet Bread’ the desert can be eaten toasted with or without butter. The dome shaped desert is also a popular choice of gift this Christmas.
Sicilians are passionate about their food and NUI proves that good food needn’t be expensive and can come in the simplest of forms. The family’s sister restaurant based in Haslingden has proved a great success and NUI is now welcoming Christmas shoppers in the Trafford centre to come and try a slice of their traditional Panettone with a hot coffee or sweet liqueur.
The desert is becoming a popular festive snack and NUI also has an ice cream cart based In Barton Square where Panettone is also a popular choice with shoppers.
