Teaching the Tricks of the Treat Trade!

Parents and children across the country received a wonderfully wicked treat during half-term when Red Hot World Buffet held a series of free masterclasses around the UK on how to host the perfect Halloween party.

Pastry chefs from the Cardiff, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Milton Keynes and Northampton branches led the ‘Tricks of the Treat Trade’ events, inviting youngsters to dress up in their scariest costumes to join them for a string of two-hour workshops during the October half-term holidays.

Large workstations laden with tempting treats provided the platform for the festivities, which saw the top chefs demonstrate various spooky decoration techniques for cupcakes, shortbread biscuits and meringues.

The restaurant mixologists also stepped in and taught participants how to make a selection of delicious non-alcoholic cocktails that each had a creepy twist.

Afterwards, guests were asked to sample the masterpieces before trying their hands at making their own sweet treats and bewitching brews, taking their pick from a wide selection of delicious ingredients.

Red Hot’s corporate chef, Deepak Bahuguna, says: “We all really enjoyed getting in the spooky spirit of Halloween by planning the nation-wide events, and they proved to be even more fun on the day. It was wonderful to see how much all the children – and adults – and we were really impressed by some of the efforts during the masterclass.”

The winners of the best food and drinks were awarded a complimentary meal for two and everyone who took part received a certificate and a treat-filled goody bag, containing a discount voucher and a leaflet detailing how to throw the perfect Halloween party. Games included a spooky lucky dip where children were awarded a selection of sweets, vouchers and toys.

Jenifer Melia, owner of Liverpool’s Crafty Cooks cookery school, attended the event with daughters Eloise and Amy, aged 16 and 11.

She says: “This was a fantastic event and everyone had such a lot of fun. It was so entertaining and the perfect activity for the kids to get involved with during the half-term break. It was a real bonus to be able to take all the delicious treats we made home with us afterwards!”
