Red Hot Prepares for World Record with 20-Stone Cake Pop

A 20-stone cake pop containing more calories than the recommended daily intake for 267 days has been crafted by Red Hot World Buffet in preparation for a World Record attempt.

Hand-covered in more chocolate than the weight of an average adult (15 stone) and fully edible, to burn off the 3-metre wide sweet treat you would need to run 177 marathons or walk to China and back.

Darshan Choudhari, head pastry chef at the national restaurant chain, masterminded the mammoth work of art in preparation for a World Record attempt later this year.

“I wanted to see what it would take to pull off a record-breaking stunt, at the same time as ensuring the end result tastes delicious. It took us more than 17 hours of solid work to make the edible centre and over 3,000 individually-dipped cake pops that made up this gigantic dessert,” Darshan says.

The cake pop was assembled in The Light shopping centre in Leeds, where members of the public were encourage to enjoy a free taste test and give feedback to the chefs.

Darshan adds: “Chocolate is a real passion of mine and I’ve always enjoyed pushing the boundaries with my creations. This is one of my most ambitious projects so far, and I can’t wait to go even bigger and better with the World Record attempt.”
