Mel visits award winning Ring O Bells

Having already heard great things about the Ring O Bells and seen Chef Andy King on stage at the Great British Food Festival I didnt my arm twisting when a friend suggested we go. After a hard day's work at Oring HQ I was starving... well ready for full 3 courses!

When we arrived there was a party in the back room which looked pretty cool and a good atmosphere was building. The bar/restaurant area was filling with diners.

We got a fantastic welcome from the young staff, and service from them and manager Ian was fantastic throughout. But alas... onto the food!

For starter my partner had the Soup of the Day, curried Cauliflour and it was beautiful. Well balanced and very tasty. The Smoked Haddock Fishcake was soft in the middle with a think crispy coating and a poached egg that bulged before popping its yokey goodness.

A great start. By now there was a lot more diners in, many seemed to be regulars... I was started to see why they would come back time and again.

For main I had a 8oz Rump Steak with a Varinatha Pepper crust. The meat itself was amazing - clearly a product that has taken Andy and Ian a lot of research finding a great supplier. The Pepper crust was interesting without overbearing the meat and the chips were top drawer.

My partners Fish and Chips was very rustic and looked great. Another fantastic success.

So, having been hungry all day I was starting to feel I had hit my limit. But when asked, I just couldnt bring myself to turning down a look at the Dessert menu. We took a punt on Key Lime pie after constantly being told by Nerdo in the office that its the best dessert out there (I'm more of a chocolate freak normally). Two spoons with that.

As you can see it was really well presented. Cracking taste and texture too, I think Nerdo is onto something here! The bottle of red (free with the onionring voucher) was a cracker too, and all in it was very reasonably priced.

The award winning Ring O Bells won another two fans. It was simply splendid. One well worth a drive out for the evening. They just launched a new menu - so Ive got an excuse to go back now too, might see you there!!
