Mel finally gets lunch out, and isn't disappointed

Rosso Review

My boss had said he was going to treat me to lunch, and he finally delivered on Monday – it was up to me as to where, Manchester was our oyster. I’ve fancied trying Rosso for a while now, building looks amazing and it’s a bit of a celeb favourite so I thought if it’s good enough for David Beckham its good enough for me.

We were not disappointed.

Despite being early in the week, the restaurant was surprisingly lively for just short of 1pm on a Monday. You are struck straight away by the beautiful building and interior, it has a grand but warm feel to it.
The friendly hostess seated us in a lovely booth, looking out over the restaurant – I caught a glimpse of a lovely looking Panna Cotta (note to self to order later).

The a la carte menu is available but with a really decent lunch menu running alongside, and at a bargain £12.95 for two courses, we decided to stick to this. Plus with too many choices I can be there all day deciding what to have!
I went with mozzarella salad to start and lamb shoulder. The salad was refreshing and generous with the mozzarella, my boss raved about the Fagottini (aubergine with Parma ham and spinach in a tomato sauce) ‘one of the best sauces I have had’ and apparently he has tried a lot.
The lamb was really tasty, lots of tender meat, sometime it can be rather fatty but this was just rather good, served with a mixed beans. The boss had the crab spaghetti, again he seemed to enjoy it, well, he didn’t seem to look up until it was all gone – usually a good sign.

Service throughout was prompt and friendly – which is all you ever want really.

Sometimes these restaurants can be all glamour and no substance, you certainly can’t say that about Rosso. Oh and that Panna Cotta was even better than it looked.
