New Burton Road bar Saison launches
The team behind Chorlton’s iconic Dulcimer bar will next week launch their new venture, this time on Didsbury’s popular Burton Road.
On Friday 11th September The Violet Hour will become Saison, whose raison d’etre is to serve a lovingly handpicked selection of the best ales and lagers from around the world. With 16 keg ales, four cask and a menu of 40 bottles to choose from, you might find it difficult to make your selection.
Luckily co‐owner and ale aficionado David Bell (previously at the helm of
Dulcimer and The Deaf Institute) is on hand to recommend the perfect tipple to suit your tastes – and there’s an impressive wine, spirit and cocktail menu for the non hop‐inclined.
“
We’ve long been fans of the vibrant bar and restaurant scene on Burton Road, and when looking for a home for our new venture couldn’t think of a better spot, ” says David.
“
I think our offer perfectly suits the neighbourhood and hopefully presents locals and visitors alike with another attractive drinking and dining option in West Didsbury”.
Anyone expecting a Dulcimer carbon copy, however, might be surprised, he explains.
“
Dulcimer’s one of a kind, and has its place as one of the first bars of its type in Chorlton. But with Saison, we wanted to try something new. We’re bringing all our beer and cocktail expertise to the table, and we’re also looking forward to showing our passion for food with an exciting seasonal menu.
We chose the name Saison not only because of its Belgian beer connotations but because its meaning – season – reflects our culinary ambitions. ”
Still in development, Saison is working closely with chefs to design a small plate‐style selection that will focus on local, market‐fresh seasonal ingredients. This will roll out as a sample menu in the coming weeks.
“
Our drinks offer is crafted from years of experience and we’re confident it’s the best it could be, ” says David.
“
But food is a new venture for us, and we’d like to take our time to find out what really works. ”
For the launch event, Saison is partnering with up-and-coming local chefs Oh My Glaze, who will be taking over the kitchen to provide free tasters of what’s to come. But for now, the focus is firmly on the beer, with breweries including Blackjack, Runaway, Track, Squawk, First Chop, Siren, Weird Beard, Alechemy, Anarchy, Arbor, Stone, Smuttynose, North Coast, Heretic, Brooklyn, Edge, Mikkeller, Galway Bay and more.
Music from DJs Hot Rats and Devil’s Jukebox.
