City centre restaurants team up to support chefs for children at Alder Hey

Two city centre restaurants have joined forces with Alder Hey Children's Hospital to brighten up the meal times of children receiving care at the new hospital.

Popular Italian eatery Il Forno and Japanese restaurant Sapporo Teppanyaki, both on Duke Street, will be asking customers to make a donation all throughout the festive season, to support Alder Hey's unique ward-based chef programme.

The programme ensures wards at the new Alder Hey have a resident chef to prepare fresh, healthy food on-demand and to-order. As well as bringing comfort to the young patients, the programme ensures the kids have nutritious food that they actually enjoy eating - whether that's fresh pureed baby food or older childrens' beloved spaghetti bolognaise.

Theo Tsiolas, operating director of the restaurants, said:

There are few things more comforting than a good meal, with your family or friends, at Christmas time – so supporting this wonderful programme at Alder Hey seemed like the ideal way to give back this festive season, especially given both Sapporo and Il Forno are family-friendly restaurants.

Thank you in advance to all our guests, whom I am sure will welcome this fantastic cause with open arms."

Louise Barrett, from Alder Hey Children's Charity, said:

"We are delighted that Sapporo and Il Forno are supporting Alder Hey Children’s Charity and in particular the ward-based chef programme in our brand new state-of the-art hospital.

"Alder Hey sees over 275,000 children and young people every year from right across the UK, with children on average having to spend three days at the hospital.

"We know that this revolutionary food-on-demand service is already making a huge difference to patients, proving the right food at the right time is part of the holistic care offered.

"We couldn’t do it without your support. Thank you to both Sapporo and Il Forno and all their customers for making a difference this Christmas.

In addition to asking guests to contribute donations to a collection pot, Sapporo will be running an additional fund-raiser wherein guests can purchase a festive bauble for the chance to win a £500 cash prize.
