Mel spends the afternoon in the Gardeners Cottage
You know what it's like, the sun is shining and you need a good excuse to go and eat al fresco so when Mel heard Tatton Park had opened the new Gardeners Cottage Tea Room she didn't waste any time organising her trip.
On arrival Mel was very impressed with the former head gardener’s cottage and its setting. The beautiful building surrounded by wild flowers and friendly birds appealed to Mel's more caring nature (yes she does have one).
Mel was taken to her table at the bottom of the garden and quickly slapped on the factor 50 before she began to browse the menu. As it was 1pm Mel skipped past breakfast and afternoon tea and headed straight for the lunch options.
One of Mel's favourite starters is pate so this was an easy decision. The pate came with freshly baked bread and a delicious onion chutney. The pate itself melted in the mouth and was fresh and full of flavour.
Next up Mel was served the Caerphilly cheese and leek tart which had a lovely crisp casing and delicious cheesy interior, it certainly tickled her taste buds.
She finished her visit off in style with a selection of regional cheeses, pickles, apple, tomatoes on the vine, breads, crackers, grapes and a selection of vegetable crisps.
With the sun shining and a glass of traditional lemonade in hand Mel could have happily sat there all day but unfortunately she now had 12 missed calls from the boss and a day job to get back to!
The Gardeners Cottage is something a little special and very unlike some of the drab tea rooms we have come to expect in country parks across the country. Check it out and be pleasantly surprised!
