Italian food is our favourite but this let the style down very badly. For years we were patrons of the Portofino in Wilmslow and that was the byword in excellence. Laterly we went to the Altrincham branch and it was 'ok'. This however was a big let down. Poor service(three looking aftera full restaurant) and two pasta dishes that were bland to say the least. Tomatoe sauce that was so runny and a concoction of poor flavours. It didnt excite or want you to savour. The Matraciana was weak and quite frankly the worst we had ever tasted. A great pity because a legandary name has been sullied. Wont be making a return visit. Very very disappointed.

We've eaten here on many occcasions from being in need of TLC, a family Christening lunch, Sunday lunches and many many more since 1993. We have always had excellent service and on only 1 occasion out of hundreds that something wasn't right, it was rectified immediately. The rooms are always very comfortable and we have enjoyed staying there now that we no longer live in Knutsford. Sadly, there isn't one in SW France where we now live.

My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times recently and have been massively impressed with the food. The best thing about this restaurant I think is the menu. Very comprehensive with choices for any taste and any budget! The first time we ate there we had some fantastic specials and a couple of bottles of really good wine, blowing over a hundred quid on a very decent meal for two. The second was for a lovely midweek bite with friends and the bill only came to 80 quid for 4 people (starters, mains and drinks). On both occassions the quality was fantastic and the portions very generous, really excellent value for money. The only criticism I would have was the service on the midweek occassion could have been more attentive considering they weren't too busy. A simple smile goes a long way to making you feel welcome!
