About Luso

CLOSED JAN 2011. Luso is a new 'modern Portuguese' restaurant on Manchester's Bridge Street that's already picked up a 'best fine dining restaurant' award from Metro. The extensive and inspired menu encompasses traditional Portuguese dishes as well as influences from the Portuguese colonial diaspora including Macau, Goa, Brazil, Africa and Japan.

Standouts include the Caldo Verde soup, Seafood Cataplana, Salt Cod Gomes Do Sa and Chicken Piri Piri. The large wine list at Luso is exclusively Portuguese (bar the champagne) with a choice of wines by the glass and half bottles. You can also sample Portuguese beer, mineral water and fruit nectar, a kind of thick fruit juice. Luso is open six days a week for lunch and dinner with a Petiscos (small plates/tapas) menu available at lunchtimes.

There were two doctors and an undertaker eating out in Manchester last week.... The food was fresh, vibrant, and generous, and the staff made the fiendish three very welcomed indeed. Hearty genuine food and people. Great. Must return.

Total Score:
Ate at Luso on Saturday with my husband. Really really good meal and generally good experience. I had the pea and ham terrine followed by the salt cod - both excellent and I hadn't had similar dishes anywhere else. My husband had the Brazilian salad and the piri piri chicken - again, both great. The bread selection to start was fab too - it came with sardine pate, tomato butter and goats cheese mousse. Our waitress was really good and checked we liked everything several times. Service was quick but not rushed. Will definitely go again.

I have eaten here several times now, the food is fantastic really fresh and always really tasty, the service is very good & dead friendly (they remembered my name from the second visit). A real treat whether going for a few starters at lunchtime or for the full five course extravaganza on one of their gourmet evenings! Go you won't be disappointed
